We are blessed today to honor our very own Joe “Cat” Catanzaro stand before to receive the 9th Annual Spirit of Basketball Award.
Joe comes to us from the Coal Minning area of Scranton but now he is all “Monroe County”. Joe has a bachelors degree from East Stroudsburg University and a Masters from Marywood in Counseling. Now, I know why Counseling! Just think of all the coaches Joe had to Counsel along the way as they jump up and down on the sidelines. Joe, presently is serving his 19th year as PIAA State interpreter which comprises 12 districts, 85 Chapters and over 6000 Basketball Officals. Joe is in his 25th year as District 11 Interpreter and 30th year as our Chapter Interpreter.
“Joe Cat” has taught many of our current officials through the officiating course here at ESU Joe, presents several programs each year at the PIAA Officals Convention. Please note in order to do state playoff games this is a must and officials must attend at least every 5 years.
Joe has worked over “Listen to This”…over 2500 games high school basketball games the past 40 years. In the collegiate Ranks Joe has officiated at the Division 1,2 and 3 levels which include Big East, Ivy League, ACC, Patriot League, PSAC and MAC… Joe thanks for all you have done to bring Basketball Officiating to a level of respect and Fairness!!!
